1815 年的法國。因偷麵包在苦役場度過十九年的 Jean Valjean 獲得假釋，決心展開新的人生。然而警官 Javert 執著的追捕、他對養女 Cosette 的愛，以及 1832 年巴黎街壘的起義，一一將他捲入其中。他的旅程，成為一段救贖與奉獻的旅程。
